Lord Stewartby, RD, Litt D (Cantab) FBA - President - Eldest Great-grandson of Sir Halley Stewart - Religious Committee A banker by Profession, Lord Stewartby has recently retired from being Deputy Chairman of Standard Chartered PLC. During the 1980's he held a number of posts in Government, including Economic Secretary to the Treasury and Minister of State for the Armed Forces.
Professor Phil Whitfield, BA, MA, PhD ,FKC - Trust Chairman - All Committees Professor Whitfield was appointed Vice-Principal of King's College London in September 2004 having previously been the Head of the School (Faculty) of Health and Life Sciences. He is a parasitologist with a special interest in the development of new means for the treatment and control of human parasitic diseases in developing countries. His work at King's has involved collaborative research programmes with colleagues in Egypt, Brazil, Hong Kong and Thailand.
Mrs Joanna Womack, MA - Honorary Treasurer--Finance Committee Mrs Joanna Womack qualified as a solicitor in 1972 and worked in the City of London before moving to Cambridge to teach Law at New Hall, University of Cambridge. For the past 20 years she has been engaged in University Administration. She retired as Treasurer of the University of Cambridge in September 2003 and is currently the Bursar of Clare Hall, Cambridge. She was appointed Hon. Treasurer to the Trust in April 2008
Dr Caroline Berry, MBBS, PhD, FRCP - Medical & Religious Committee Caroline Berry worked for many years as a Consultant Clinical Geneticist based at Guys Hospital, London. Since retirement she has been honorary secretary of Christians in Science.
Miss Barbara Clapham - Associate Trustee - Religious Committee Miss Clapham served the Trust as Secretary from 1946 until her election as an Associate Trustee on her retirement in 1974.
The Rev The Lord Griffiths - Chair of Religious Committee Superintendent Minister of Wesley's Chapel, London and former president of the Methodist Conference. Lord Griffiths is a writer and broadcaster with extensive interests in world development, university education and alcohol abuse and various aspects of contemporary culture. He serves on a wide range of boards and committees.
Mr Bill Kirkman, MBE, MA -- Emeritus Trustee Former Africa Correspondent of the Times. Head of Cambridge University Careers Service 1968-1992. Emeritus Fellow, Wolfson College, Cambridge. Founder of the Press Fellowship Programme at Wolfson College for visiting journalists. Secretary and Editor, The Cambridge Society, 1992 until 2004. Chairman of CAMREAD, Trustee Chaplaincy to People at Work, Cambridgeshire. Columnist for The Hindu (Chennai). Interests: Social, religious and educational issues and Africa.
Professor John Lennard-Jones, MD, DSc (Hon), FRCP, FRCS- Medical Committee Professor Lennard-Jones, now retired, worked as a physician, teacher and researcher at three London hospitals where he specialised in gastroenterology and clinical nutrition. Latterly, he has been involved in genetic research and has written on ethical aspects of nutritional care. He is a member of the Christian Medical Fellowship and of Christians in Science. His interests cover all aspects of the Trust's work.
Professor Phyllida Parsloe, BA, AAPSW, PhD - Chair of Social Committee Phyllida Parsloe has been a probation officer, psychiatric social worker and professor of social work. Since retirement she has chaired an NHS Hospital Trust and is involved with a number of voluntary agencies working with refugees and asylum seekers, older people and those with dementia. She is also a Thornbury Town Councillor.
Mr George Russell, JP, CA - Finance & Social Committee Retired Finance Director of a media company. Retired Magistrate after 23 years service - having served as Bench Chairman and Chairman of Cambridgeshire Magistrate's Courts Committee. Retired in 2008 as Hon. Treasurer of the Trust after serving for 39 years. He has been a Trustee for 37 years.
Mr Michael Stewart Ross Collins - Great-grandson of Sir Halley Stewart - Social Committee Mr Ross Collins is Deputy Chair of Three Valleys Water Plc; Chair of the Sir Malcolm Stewart Bart General Charitable Trust; Chair of the Trustees of the Fan Museum; Chair of the Trustees of Much Hadham Parish Church; Partner of Trinley Estate Management.
Dr Duncan Stewart, MBBS, DObst, RCOG - Vice-Chairman ,Great-grandson of Sir Halley Stewart - Medical Committee Qualified at Guy's Hospital in 1967 and now works in General Practice in Sussex. He was actively involved with charity work in Bosnia during the war there.
Ms Caroline Thomas, BA (Hons) - (Associate Trustee)Social Committee Caroline Thomas is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Stirling and works as an Academic Advisor to the Department for Education and Skills. She contributes to the commissioning, management and co-ordination of the DCSF's children and families' research programmes and has a special interest in research relating to children in care and children in need. Caroline also works with specialist organisations such as Research in Practice and Making Research Count, to promote the implementation of research in the delivery of children's services.
Professor Gordon Wilcock, DM (Oxon), FRCP - Chair of Medical Committee Gordon Wilcock is a Professor of Clinical Geratology at the University of Oxford and an honorary consultant physician with the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust and the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. He has been involved in Alzheimer's disease since the late 1970s and was founder Chairman of the Alzheimer's Society. His research programme has spanned the spectrum from molecular genetics in the laboratory to the patient and carer, and has been involved in the development of some of the existing licensed treatments for Alzheimer's disease. He has established a multidisciplinary dementia research centre alongside clinical services for older people in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and is developing a research programme concentrating on exploring better ways of evaluating new treatments, and making the diagnosis at an earlier stage.
Professor John Wyatt, BSc, MBBS, FRCP, FRCPCH, DCH - Medical Committee John Wyatt is Professor of Ethics & Perinatology & Consultant Neonatal Paediatrician, University College London. He is also Chairman of the Ethics Study Group of the Christian Medical Fellowship, Board member of London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, Council member of Medical Defence Union. His areas of expertise are: Research into the causation and prevention of brain damage in newborn babies; Medical care of newborn babies in developing countries; Ethical, legal and philosophical dilemmas in health care at the beginning of life.
Mrs Theresa Bartlett, BSc Hons--Social Committee Theresa Bartlett is the niece of Mr Ross Collins. She worked for fifteen years in the Sedgwick Group reaching the rank of Associate Director; she is a Liveryman of the Fan Makers Company; and since 2003 she has been working for the Citizens Advice Bureau.
