The Sir Halley Stewart Trust was delighted to welcome two new trustees at the recent Board meeting.
Sophie Stewart is the daughter of Dr Duncan Stewart and a great-great-granddaughter of Sir Halley Stewart. She has worked in marketing and communications for over 30 years across a range of sectors including telecommunications, financial services and consumer publishing in both the UK and Australia. Sophie currently works as a Senior Marketing Manager in the Innovation division of BT Group.
John Wyatt, Chair of the Medical subcommittee said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Sophie will be joining the medical subcommittee of trustees, bringing her professional expertise in innovation marketing and personal experience in various charitable and community roles to aid our discussions, and strengthening the productive collaboration between family and non-family trustees in the work of the Trust.”
John Peter Archer leads on governance and operations for the Master Charitable Trust, a registered charity and donor advised fund launched by C. Hoare & Co., the UK’s oldest private bank, and supports philanthropists to simplify their charitable giving and maximise their impact. John’s career started in international development and advocacy, supporting communities in protracted conflict zones and isolated rural areas. He has cofounded two award-winning non-profits to tackle health inequality in Myanmar and sanitation inequity in emerging cities. In 2018, John was recognised in the Forbes’ 30 social entrepreneurs under 30 in Europe.
Chair of the Social subcommittee, Celia Atherton, commented: “I’m delighted that John has joined the Board and the Social subcommittee. His knowledge of social entrepreneurship, collaborative working and philanthropy advice will be invaluable to our grant-making. As a former grantee, John brings an understanding of the ever-changing charity climate, not least around the developing, sometimes challenging, use of AI in grant applications and projects.”
